FNMI

In Lakeland Catholic we continue to work diligently towards implementing the key initiatives underway taken from The First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education Partnership Council and the Memorandum of Understanding for First Nations Education in Alberta. Both of these documents focus on improving educational outcomes for First Nation, Métis and Inuit students while supporting band-operated schools. Lakeland Catholic School District, as well as all other districts throughout the province, is required to plan and report on FNMI goal 4, which corresponds to Alberta Education’s goal 3.

On June 30, 2011, an Agreement in Principle was signed between the Chiefs from Beaver Lake Cree Nation, Cold Lake First Nations, Frog Lake Frist Nations, Heart Lake First Nations, Kehewin Cree Nation and Whitefish Lake First Nation No. 128 and the following school boards, Aspen View Regional School Division No. 19, Lakeland Catholic School District No. 150, Northern Lights School Division No. 69 and St. Paul Education Regional Division No.1.

With the agreement now in place, we look forward to the opportunities and dialogue that it presents for helping all of our students succeed.
